Ms Lear was pronounced “brain dead” early on Thursday morning.
A Disneyland employee has died after sustaining a head injury in a golf cart accident, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. The 60-year-old woman, Bonnye Mavis Lear, was in the backstage area of the California theme park when the incident occurred. Lear, who had worked at Disneyland Resort for 24 years, was a member of the membership services team at Club 33, the park’s exclusive private dining club.
The accident took place on Wednesday when Anaheim Police and Anaheim Fire and Rescue were called to the resort. Lear, a passenger in the golf cart, struck her head after falling from the moving vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital in grave condition and was pronounced “brain dead” early Thursday morning.
Ken Potrock, President of Disneyland Resort, expressed his condolences and emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Lear’s family and colleagues through this difficult time. “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” he stated.
Rae Delgado, a Disney California Adventure Attractions cast member, provided additional details on Facebook. She mentioned that Lear suffered brain swelling and a fractured skull in the accident. According to Delgado, Lear was sitting on a rear-facing seat in the golf cart with three other passengers when the cart hit a bump or dip in the road. The jolt caused Lear to grab a handrail, which gave way, causing her to fall out of the vehicle. Paramedics found her unconscious upon arrival.
Delgado expressed frustration and grief, criticizing the driver for reckless driving and questioning the condition of the new golf cart. She highlighted that the accident could have been avoided with more careful operation of the vehicle.
Delgado also mentioned that Disneyland managers have asked cast members not to discuss the details of Lear’s death, seeking to maintain silence on the matter. She called for accountability and efforts to rectify the situation, emphasizing the need to address the issues that led to the tragedy.
