Box Office: Zootopia 2 Eyes $140M Opening, ‘Wicked’ $90M Over Thanksgiving
This year’s Thanksgiving box office is looking a lot like last year’s holiday rush—with Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good taking the lead. While Zootopia 2 may not hit the same heights Moana 2 reached last year, it’s still on track for a huge weekend. According to early projections, the film could bring in around $140 million over the five-day holiday, with $88–90 million expected from the standard three-day weekend. That’s a solid jump from the original Zootopia’s $75 million opening.
However, it still falls short of Moana 2’s massive $225 million Thanksgiving debut in 2024.
The softer performance across the 2025 box office is one reason for the gap. Even Wicked: For Good isn’t matching the original, with forecasts of around $91 million for the five-day stretch—down from the first film’s $118 million during the same period.
Still, theater owners have plenty to be happy about. The industry has been hungry for big hits since September’s successful run of The Conjuring: Last Rites and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. But not every movie is getting that Thanksgiving weekend boost.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is heading toward a modest $8.5 million for the three-day weekend, while Predator: Badlands should end up around $5.4 million.
One standout this weekend is A24’s rom-com Eternity, which is performing far better than expected. Even with only about 1,300 screens, it’s aiming for a possible fifth-place finish at $5.4 million. Viewers who check it out may find a surprise favorite.
Meanwhile, Focus Features’ awards hopeful Hamnet is thriving in limited release. It’s expected to earn around $1.4 million over the five-day holiday, with an impressive $11K+ per-screen average.
