“Shocking Scandal: Royal Caribbean Crew Caught Filming 1,000 Passengers in Bathrooms!”

Royal Caribbean crew member filmed nearly 1,000 passengers in bathrooms using hidden cameras, hid under their beds: lawsuit

A shocking lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean International and a former crew member after nearly 1,000 passengers may have been filmed in their private bathrooms on board one of the company’s largest cruise ships. The disturbing case, which was filed on October 21, 2024, has left many travelers questioning their safety during cruises.

The class-action lawsuit, initiated by a passenger referred to as “Jane Doe,” claims that the cruise line failed to protect its guests from the actions of Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a stateroom attendant on the ship Symphony of the Seas. Mirasol, who had been employed by the cruise line, was allegedly responsible for installing hidden cameras in passenger bathrooms, secretly recording their private moments, and even hiding under their beds to spy on them.

The incident came to light when a guest discovered a hidden camera inside their bathroom on February 25, 2024, while on board the ship. The camera was carefully placed under the sink to avoid detection. The passenger immediately reported the discovery to the ship’s security team, who detained Mirasol until the vessel docked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida, a search of Mirasol’s electronic devices revealed numerous videos of children and adults in various states of undress.

Mirasol, who has since pleaded guilty to charges of producing child pornography, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. However, the full extent of the damage caused by his actions is still being uncovered. The lawsuit alleges that Mirasol secretly filmed up to 960 passengers between December 1, 2023, and February 26, 2024. These passengers, many of whom were children, had their privacy violated in the most intimate of settings – their stateroom bathrooms.

The lawsuit also raises concerns about Royal Caribbean’s handling of the situation. It claims that the cruise line failed to inform other passengers who may have been filmed during that period, leaving them unaware that their privacy had been violated. The filing further argues that Royal Caribbean should have been aware of the risk of such incidents occurring, citing previous cases of sexual assaults and voyeurism on their ships.

The attorneys representing Jane Doe, Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., argue that Royal Caribbean could have prevented this from happening if they had taken appropriate measures. In a statement, attorney Jason Margulies said, “Royal Caribbean became aware of this problem in March of 2023 when a hidden camera was found in a public bathroom on the pool deck of one of its ships, yet it has seemingly done nothing since then to protect its passengers from reoccurrences – like these instances which went on for nearly three months, over the course of 12 cruises, and involved up to 960 passengers including many children.”

The lawsuit highlights the growing issue of sexual assaults on cruise ships. According to reports, there were 131 allegations of sexual assault on cruise ships in 2023, a significant increase from the 87 reported in 2022. Of those incidents, 26 occurred on Royal Caribbean’s ships alone. The lawsuit claims that Royal Caribbean should have taken steps to prevent such incidents, including better training for staff and more thorough screening processes.

For many passengers, the idea of being secretly filmed during their vacation is a nightmare. “Who knows how many countless numbers of pornographic images of these unsuspecting passengers will be circulating on the internet forever because Royal Caribbean failed to protect their privacy,” Margulies added.

Despite these serious allegations, Royal Caribbean has yet to respond to requests for comment. As the lawsuit progresses, the company could face significant financial penalties and further damage to its reputation. This case also raises broader concerns about the safety and privacy of passengers on cruise ships, especially as incidents of sexual misconduct continue to rise.

For those who have sailed on Symphony of the Seas during the time period in question, the uncertainty surrounding whether they were filmed is troubling. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the emotional distress and invasion of privacy suffered by Jane Doe and other passengers. It also calls for better security measures on cruise ships to ensure that such violations do not happen again.

As the case continues, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and transparency in the cruise industry. Passengers trust these companies with their safety and privacy, and when that trust is broken, the consequences can be devastating.

Royal Caribbean’s next steps in addressing this issue will be closely watched, not only by those affected but also by the broader public, as cruise lines continue to face scrutiny over passenger safety and security on board their ships.
