Before I jet set off on a recent work trip, I found myself struggling to put outfits together — not just for my day-to-day once I arrived, but for the actual plane ride itself. I had a busy itinerary, which meant that I’d need to jump into several meetings and activities immediately after I landed — and all while coming off of a long haul overnight flight.
Naturally, the whole scenario left me with more questions than answers: Do I dress professionally and sacrifice a comfortable night’s rest onboard the plane? Can I get away with wearing loungewear to a work meeting? Are there any wrinkle-free travel clothes I can pack into my personal carry-on and quickly change into once I’ve landed?
Dare I say, travel outfits might be the most complicated thing to plan for ahead of a trip (yes, even moreso than booking flights or hotels). Fortunately, the experience not only forced me to do some serious research on the best travel outfits, but it also introduced me to the best brands for finding functional, versatile attire — beyond my usual favorites like Nordstrom or Spanx. Whether you’re gearing up for a busy work trip or hoping to unwind on your next red eye flight, there are so many options to shop online.
Ahead, I rounded up the best travel outfits for women, with styles that range from comfy wardrobe essentials to wrinkle-free options and plane travel outfits that you can wear from the airport to a work event and beyond. These pieces come from top brands like Alo Yoga, Revolve, and more. Keep reading to shop my selects for the best travel outfits for long flights.
10 Carry-On Bags Every Jet-Setter Should Own, According to Our Editors
Best Plane Travel Outfit
With dozens of rave reviews and a wide variety of color options, this is one of the best Amazon travel outfits thanks to its polyester and rayon composition — which is light as air and provides optimal air flow so you won’t have to worry about feeling too hot (even if you’re tucked away in the middle seat). The style’s contoured design provides a figure-flattering look that accentuates curves and makes you look polished with minimal effort.
Best Travel Jumpsuit
I personally have this jumpsuit and can confirm that it’s one of the most comfortable pieces to not only travel in, but to own — period. The style is made from an airy fabric that’s buttery soft and breathable; even with its long-sleeve design, I never feel too warm or constricted. Unlike other jumpsuits, this piece is crafted from Spanx’s signature material which boasts a four-way stretch design and is made with movement in mind. I can sprawl out on the plane without having to worry about any noticeable wrinkles after the fact.
Best Travel Dress
If you’re not worried about getting too cold on the flight (or you travel with a trusted blanket in tow), consider opting for a travel maxi dress like this style from Tuckerneck. It has a crewneck-inspired fit that mirrors the casual look of loungewear, but still offers an elevated enough design so that you can wear it to a work meeting or appointment right after you land.
Best Travel Set
Made from 100 percent cotton, this is one of the best travel outfits for women thanks to its cozy design and versatility. The set comes with an oversize knit top and capris to match, plus the bottom’s are fitted with an elastic waistband for extra stretch. With this set in tow, you’ll waste no time jumping off the plane and heading straight to the beach or a casual lunch date.
Best Travel Pant
If you’re wondering what to wear for long haul flights, these lightweight linen bottoms are the perfect option. The pant’s ooze a sophisticated vibe that’s both polished and practical, while the adjustable waistband ensures plenty of extra stretch in the places you need it most. Pair them with a cropped baby T-shirt and blazer for a look that’s comfy and primed for all-day wear — even right after you get off of the plane.
Best Wrinkle-Free Travel Outfit
Don’t let this style’s elevated design fool you — it’s made to be worn on board a flight or while riding passenger in a car (no really). The piece is from the Chico’s Travelers Collection, which features an assortment of comfy travel outfits that are crafted from the brand’s signature wrinkle-resistant naia sustainable fabric.
Best Travel Blazer
Nothing screams polished quite like an oversize blazer, and unlike other styles, this version is made from Alo’s soft, smooth midweight suiting material — making it more comfortable than traditional blazer options. Style it on top of a delicate tank and baggy joggers for a look you can comfortably wear from the terminal to the hotel lobby and beyond.
Best Travel Loungewear
If you’re limited on packing space, consider sporting something versatile like this travel dress while on the plane. The Skims frock boasts a body-hugging fit that highlights curves while still providing enough coverage to keep you feeling comfortable. Plus, you can get multiple uses out of it while on your trip; style it with heels for a sultry nighttime look or wear it to bed as a sleek pajama alternative.
Best Travel T-Shirt
No travel wardrobe is complete without a staple T-shirt incorporated into it and this Banana Republic style comes highly recommended. The top has a more fitted design compared to other tees, giving you a tailored look that’s easy to dress up or down accordingly. Plus, it’s made from a cotton and spandex blend that’s uniquely breathable.
Best Travel Bodysuit
Spanx has no shortage of comfy travel outfits, but this ribbed bodysuit is one of my very favorites. The style’s boatneck design makes it look so much more elevated than a traditional T-shirt. Plus, it’s comfy enough to wear with sweats while on the flight, and can then be teamed with high-waisted denim or trousers after the fact.
