In 2023, Shiv Nadar, co-founder of HCL, emerged as India’s foremost philanthropist, generously donating ₹2,042 crore, equivalent to ₹5.6 crore daily during FY23. His philanthropic interests encompass education, art, and culture. The annual EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 highlights this achievement, featuring 24 notable philanthropists. Following Shiv Nadar on the list is Azim Premji, the founder and chairman of Wipro, who contributed ₹1,774 crore.

Notably, seven women are among the top Indian philanthropists, with Rohini Nilekani, the founder of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, leading the way by donating ₹170 crore in FY23. Her inclusion reflects the growing presence of women in the philanthropic sphere. Other contributors include Anu Aga and her family from Thermax, Leena Gandhi Tewari of USV, and Zerodha co-founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, who donated ₹110 crore, with Nikhil Kamath being the youngest philanthropist on the list.

The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, released on November 2, recognizes individuals and families in India who have made significant charitable contributions, promoting education, healthcare, and environmental causes.
