This Is the Latest Airport That Will Allow Non-travelers to Escort Loved Ones to the Gate
Philadelphia International Airport has introduced an innovative solution for travelers yearning for a few extra moments with their loved ones before embarking on their holiday journeys. Starting November 1, just in time for the holiday season, the airport will introduce the PHL Wingmate Pass, allowing ticketed passengers on domestic flights to bring non-traveling companions beyond the security checkpoints.
This novel pass, described as an “exclusive amenity” by the airport, offers non-travelers access to the secure side of the airport. Whether you are bidding farewell to family members embarking on their journey or planning a heartwarming surprise for a friend arriving on a domestic flight, the Wingmate Pass promises to get you there, as announced by the airport on October 11.
Non-ticketed guests can apply for a complimentary one-day pass, granting them access to the airport’s terminals between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Megan O’Connell, the director of marketing and branding at Philadelphia International Airport, explained that the airport devised this free amenity in response to a surge in inquiries from individuals eager to accompany passengers to their gates. The goal is to facilitate more quality time for loved ones before takeoff.
For non-ticketed guests wishing to visit a traveler at the airport, an online application can be completed one to seven days prior to their intended visit. Those who apply in advance will receive an email confirming their application status after 12 a.m. on the day of their visit. Same-day applicants will receive an email within 15 minutes, indicating whether their application has been approved. Once approved, guests will receive an email containing a digital Wingmate Pass, which can be used for access at the airport’s D/E or A-East security checkpoints.
In addition to granting post-security access, the Wingmate Pass offers exclusive deals for use at selected food and retail concessions within Philadelphia International Airport. O’Connell expressed the hope that, apart from reuniting with loved ones, the public would utilize the Wingmate Guest Pass to explore the airport’s restaurants and shops and appreciate the renowned Art Exhibitions Program at PHL.
